GABA 750mg Supplement Overview

GABA is a naturally occurring chemical messenger in your brain. It stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid. The function is to calm and slow your brain by bocking specific signals. GABA is known as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which essentially lessens the ability of nerve cells to create, send or receive chemical messages to other nerve cells.

The ability to slow certain brain functions can have profound beneficial effects. Studies have shown that GABA can help reduce stress, relieve anxiety and improve sleep!

How GABA Works

Neurotransmitters all work basically the same way. they are messengers from one nerve cell to another within your brain. Between these cells is a small amount of fluid called a synapse. The neurotransmitters have to jump their messages across the synapse and land on and bind to the specific receptors on the other nerve cell.

It’s incredibly complex sounding to me but has been likened to a key that can only fit in a specific lock. That seems far easier to understand, quite honestly.

GABA and Medical Conditions

Several mental health conditions have been linked GABA imbalances, as have certain neurologic issues. Low GABA activity can contribute to: anxiety, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, depression, epilepsy and seizures.

Other medical conditions that have been tied to GABA imblances are: pyridoxine deficiency, hepatic encephalopath, Huntington disease, dystonia and spasticity, and hypersomnia.

Since the deficiencies are alarming, I looked into whether increasing GABA levels are helpful. the evidence is not completely clear yet, although it is being used to help treat or prevent high blood pressure, insomnia and even diabetes.

I Have My Own Conclusion

I am no scientist, nor am I a doctor. What I know is that I have tried a lot of products and a lot of remedies for my own anxiety and depression. GABA doesn’t cure everything, or it would be a household name and it would not be affordable to anyone.

I have tried many brands of this supplement, and I always come back to NOW GABA. The others have all been 750mg, but I don’t seem to get the same effect. I know that I appreciate and believe in the product enough to have recommended it to friends and family. It’s a very inexpensive way to try to lower your baseline anxiety!

    1. Hi Aida, thanks for your review. I wasn’t able to find specific data on ages for which GABA is recommended, however there are chewable forms of GABA available in 100mg doses. Many pediatricians have recommended them to parents in order to try to help their children with various issues.

Personally, I have been taking GABA for a little over four years now. I can tell when I run out! It takes a couple of weeks to build up in your system enough to provide something noticeable.
